Attorney of the Year – Marie A. Carey
Marie has been a key member of the New Jersey Defense Association for over 25 years. She has served as President, Chairperson of the Board, Director and Chair of many important committees. Marie developed and launched the NJDA Trial College. The Trial College has grown into a premier annual program instructing young NJ lawyers in the art of trying cases. In 2003, Marie received a special recognition award from the Association for her 10 years of service in training young lawyers and continues to serve as Chair of this annual seminar. In 2010, President Joe Garvey asked Marie to develop a Women and the Law Seminar for our Association. Marie’s enthusiasm and dedication made that first NJDA Women and the Law Seminar a tremendous success. It has grown each year and has become one of the Association’s most successful annual seminars, bringing together judges, lawyers and businesswomen for an informative and topical seminar.
In 2015, Marie received our Outstanding Service Award. This award is given sparingly, and only to members of the Association who have provided exceptional leadership and consistent service to our Association for many years. In 2016, Marie was again recognized with NJDA’s Professional Lawyer of the Year Award. Marie is an excellent role model and mentor for our members and she continues to provide outstanding leadership and service to our organization.
