Young Lawyer of the Year – C. Robert Luthman

C. Robert Luthman was presented the NJDA Young Lawyer of the Year Award at our annual convention in June.  Rob has just completed his term as Vice President of the Southern Region.  Prior to serving as Vice President, he chaired the Auto Liability Committee and was responsible for organizing and moderating the Auto Liability Seminar in 2014 and 2015.  The Auto Liability Seminar is held every November and is one of our most successful events.  During his term as Vice President, he completed the difficult project of providing our membership with an electronic Expert Witness Directory, making expert reports and transcripts available to the membership through our website.  He also serves as Co-Chair of the annual Trial College.   In recognition of his dedication and commitment to the NJDA, as well as his outstanding leadership potential, Rob has been elected as a Director for the term 2017-2020.

Lawyer of the Year – Melissa Steedle Bogad

The NJDA Lawyer of the Year award was given to Melissa Steedle Bogad at the annual convention in June.   Melissa just completed her term as Vice President of the Central Region and has served on the Women and the Law Committee and as a speaker at the annual Women and the Law Seminar since 2015.  The Women and the Law Seminar has always been one of our most successful events, and it has evolved into a dynamic seminar discussing important topics and issues dealing with gender and diversity.   Melissa has been instrumental in expanding the Women and the Law Seminar into a cutting-edge discussion of systemic sexism, implicit bias, ethical obligations and cross-generational experiences and approaches to diversity and inclusion.  Melissa also took the lead on several related efforts including an across-the-bar networking event with plaintiffs’ attorneys and a letter to the Supreme Court CLE Board urging adoption of ABA Resolution 107, encouraging mandatory diversity and inclusion CLE requirements.  She also serves on the Appellate Practice Committee and participated as a speaker in their first seminar held in December 2016.  In recognition of her commitment to the NJDA and raising its profile in the state of New Jersey, as well as her outstanding leadership potential, Melissa has been elected as a Director for the term 2017-2020.
